Hilltop on the Hill Was a Success!
PRSSA members Alex Payne, Ali Bedell, Palmer Beldy and Avery Cooper spent their fall break with fellow CCPA majors in Washington DC. Students who participated in Hilltop on the Hill were able to network with politicians and alumni while experiencing all that our nation’s capital has to offer.
Students attended an SMU networking event alumni event attended by more than 100 professionals. SMU’s alumni network was able to help students sightsee and get the inside scoop on some of Washington, D.C.’s coolest offerings.
Thanks to the alumni, students were able to get a taste of life and work in D.C.
Avery Cooper reflects on her experience saying “I was able to explore the political communications side of CCPA and made connections I never could have dreamed of making. I haven’t considered working in D.C. before this trip, but Hilltop allowed me to make that a possibility.”
Thanks to the CCPA alumni network at SMU, students toured CNN, various PR firms, Senate offices, the State Department and the Washington Post.
CCPA majors who went on the trip were thankful for the opportunity. Seeing D.C. allowed students to open their eyes to working and life in D.C.
Ali Bedell knew she wanted “to go into politics or public affairs. Hilltop on the Hill was a great opportunity to make valuable connections in the capital. Even if you aren’t interested in politics, [she] think[s] the program is really useful. You learn about the routes you can take with a CCPA degree.”
Applications for next year’s program will go live in early Fall 2020. The trip always takes place during SMU’s fall break.
